Nick Hellyar is a lifelong Houstonian. He wasn’t born in Houston but got here as fast as he could. The child of immigrants and an immigrant himself, Nick was brought here as a baby. His mother sacrificed and rented a small one-bedroom apartment in order to send Nick to the best schools in Houston. Living far from family, Nick made a community out of the friends, neighbors, and teachers who poured into his life while attending Houston public schools. Nick first learned about public service from his sixth-grade teacher at Lanier Middle School, Mr. Henley, who invited Nick and other students to volunteer on his congressional campaign. This is where Nick dived into the world of public service and never looked back, going on to work on various campaigns, in Houston City Hall and serving as District Director for Representative Carol Alvarado’s Houston office. It was in these roles serving the people of Houston that Nick recognized his passion for fixing people’s problems. Now a homeowner and small business owner of a real estate company, Nick has continued pouring into the city that he loves by actively engaging in his neighborhood association and civic club, joining multiple boards and commissions, and serving on a Municipal Utility District (MUD). As your next City Council Member, Nick is focused on solving our city’s most basic and pressing problems like improving our infrastructure, protecting vulnerable populations, strengthening public safety, and streamlining our city regulations. Nick will always be accountable to you – the people of Houston – and he’ll go to work every day with your family, your small business, your safety, in mind. |
